Spring Break Camp: Discovery Week

Spring Break at the Discovery Center is a focused, energizing experience where kids build confidence, sharpen thinking skills, and explore new ideas through chess and hands-on discovery.

This year’s camp is intentionally designed with two age-based tracks, so every child gets the right balance of challenge, support, and growth.

Camp Overview

Ages 4–7: Chess + STEAM

Ages 8–12: Chess

Spring Break Camp helps students strengthen the habits of mind that matter most: strategic thinking, problem-solving, focus, creativity, and confidence.

Ages 4–7: Chess + STEAM

Our youngest campers experience chess as a discovery pathway, paired with hands-on STEAM exploration that makes thinking visible and engaging.

This Experience is designed for early learners who thrive with movement, building, and guided exploration.

What this experience includes:

Beginner chess foundations through puzzles, mini-games, and coached matches

Hands-on STEAM challenges that explore patterns, building, and cause-and-effect

Choice-based discovery time to build independence and curiosity

Confidence routines that encourage trying, adjusting, and growing through challenge

Ages 8–12: Chess

For older campers, Spring Break becomes a chess immersion focused on skill-building, strategy, and confident decision-making.

This Experience supports both developing and experienced players by meeting them where they are and pushing their thinking forward.

What this experience includes:

Strategy and tactics sessions (planning, patterns, forks, pins, and checkmates)

Daily puzzle challenges to build fluency and board awareness

Guided match play with coaching feedback

Emphasis on focus, sportsmanship, and competitive readiness
